Situation
Our technical client had been in operation for over 30 years, and over its lifespan had collected a variety of instruments that it used to carry out its day to day operations. Due to the eclectic nature of the instrumentation, the client was having to transfer data from the instruments in various ways- some interfaced directly into their LIMS software, some required an intermediary interface, and some didn’t interface at all, causing the client to have to manually transpose data.
Task
We needed to create a universal solution for all of the instruments to easily interface the same way, and directly into the client’s LIMS. This was an interesting challenge, as there were numerous interfaces from the various instruments, ranging from serial connections to bluetooth connections and everything in-between.
Action
We wanted to make things as easy as possible for our client, so we developed a very user friendly interface, with a very powerful level of connectivity under the hood. This program was developed with a powerfully capable and intuitive user experience design (basically a one touch button that did everything), and brought in a variety of modules to allow any instrument to interact with the interface.
Result
Our elegantly simple interface allowed our client to seamlessly interact with their eclectic collection of equipment, which improved their productivity, and allowed for ease of use for all of their staff. We also built in the added flexibility for our client to be able to add new equipment to the interface, just in case their collection grew even larger.
